With our house a chaotic mess of in progress projects, I’m keeping our Halloween decor pretty simple this year.
By focusing on one element of the season and adding small touches here and there, I’m able to add a bit of whimsy and fun to our home without feeling overwhelmed. And that’s the name of the game this year.
Almost half the rooms in our 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath house are in some stage of the makeover process. We have some secondhand pieces we found being reupholstered and have shuffled furniture around as we work on painting and refreshing some of the spaces.
With all this chaos, going full out with our Halloween decor felt like adding to the mess. Wanting to celebrate though and bring in a bit of the holiday fun, I decided to keep our Halloween decor simple this year.
To do this I focused on one single element associated with Halloween and added small touches throughout our home.
Pick One Theme To Simplify The Process
These ceramic ghosts I found on Pottery Barn were the inspiration for my theme this year. They are super cute and I loved the look of the draped fabric with the outstretched arms.
At the time I ordered them they offered a set of 3, one of each size, for purchase. They come in black or white and I snagged a set of the black for our home.
When they arrived I couldn’t believe the quality. They were very well packaged and each one was heavier than I expected. I added them to our bookcases in the back family room and love the dusty black against the deep green.
Typically, I like to change things up a bit each year to keep it fresh and interesting. I don’t have the mental capacity to get super creative though this year. By focusing on one theme, I simplified my decorating process and took the guess work out of it.
Add Small Touches In Key Spaces For the Largest Impact
Once I had my theme I then picked a few keys areas in our home to decorate. Spaces we either used on a daily bases where we could enjoy the decor. Or spaces that felt a bit more finished where the decor wouldn’t add to the chaos.
The bookcases in our back family room are pretty much done so adding the ceramic ghosts there made sense. Plus, we use this room multiple times a day so we’d get to enjoy them as well.
Our guest bedroom upstairs is still being updated but is in a pretty stable state right now. I couldn’t help myself and added a few small cute ghost candles I found on Etsy. This shop offers a few different sizes but I selected the set of three and grabbed one of each.
While out thrifting, I found this little linen ghost and decided it would be cute set up on our front porch.
I already had a pretty layered display setup on our front porch with pumpkins and mums. Adding in the ghost was a simple, easy update. I do bring it in at night because of the material it is made of, though.
Now that the weather has turned rainy and gross, this little guy mostly lives in our dining room where I can enjoy him everyday while I work.
Keeping Halloween Decor Simple and Stress Free
You don’t have to go all out each year with your decor to still enjoy a holiday. Less is more sometimes and this year I really leaned into that.
By sticking with one simple theme and adding small touches in a few spaces, we’re able to still celebrate the holiday without adding extra stress or mess.
