The Best Sugar Cookies

This recipe was passed down to me by my mother in law who received it from one of her good friends, Linda Smith.
She knew it would come in handy after I married her son and I am forever grateful she did. It is hands down his favorite cookie.
These super soft, slightly sweet sugar cookies are heavenly. I whip them up whenever the holidays roll around or the hubby behaves himself :)

Equipment

  • Stand Mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • Various Cookie Cutters
  • Spatula
  • Medium Sized Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Salted or unsalted butter, softened I like to use salted butter for extra flavor but if you prefer unsalted, use what you prefer.
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tsp Vanilla
  • 6 Cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking soda
  • 4 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Milk

Instructions

  • To a stand mixer, add the softened butter and sugar.
  • Cream until pale and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between.
  • Add in the vanilla and mix to combine.
  • In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients.
  • Add dry ingredients to butter mixture, alternating with the milk. You should start and end with the dry ingredients.
  • Working in batches, roll out the dough to approximately 1/4 inch thick. This dough is very sticky so make sure to have extra flour on hand for your rolling pin, counter, and hands.
  • Using whatever cookie cutters you prefer, cut out cookies.
  • Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 8 minutes or until done. These will be pale on top and slightly browned on the bottom.
  • Let cool completely before decorating with your favorite icing.
