Everyone has their go-to essential items they can’t live without in their home.
Some of these items make our day to day life easier, while others make life much more enjoyable.
I’ve compiled a list of the top 10 essential items I can’t live without in my own home.
Today, I’m sharing them with you!
The 10 items I can’t live without in my home

EVERYDAY HOME ESSENTIAL items TO MAKE LIFE EASIER
- Dyson Stick Vac
- Kitchen Aid Mixer
- MacBook Pro
- Lamps
- Side Tables
- Storage Bins and Baskets
For quick clean-ups
When you live in a home with a dog who seems to shed a full coat each and every day, a Dyson Cordless Stick Vac is your best friend.
We have hardwood floors throughout our home and this lightweight vacuum makes sweeping up all the dust bunnies super simple.
We scooped this little guy up on black Friday a couple of years ago.
Before that, I used to drag our shot vac around with me throughout the WHOLE entire house. Ugh…What was I thinking??
I love that this vac is not only cordless but only carries about a 10-15 min charge.
For someone who hates to vacuum, this is the perfect amount of time to dedicate to this chore. Once the charge runs out, I am forced to plug it in to recharge and go about my day.
If you are someone who prefers to vacuum once a week and knock it all out at once, this probably isn’t the vacuum for you. It would be a good secondary option to have on hand though for quick, midweek touch-ups.

bakers assistant
One of our wedding gifts to ourselves was a KitchenAid Mixer. We purchased the 6qt Architect Series but I believe they have replaced that version with the Pro Series.
We went a step up from the standard because of all the baking I do. It can hold denser, heavier batters and you can do up to 13 dozen cookies at a time!
If you know me, you know I LOVE to bake.
This piece of equipment gets used on the regular at our house.
Prior to owning one I did everything by hand or used a hand mixer. This made it difficult for this multi-tasker in the kitchen to stand still!
I can throw everything in the mixer and let it do it’s thing while I prep, chop, or mix something else.
Because let’s face it if I’m in the kitchen it’s never just for one thing.
I haven’t yet purchased any of the accessories to go along with it such as the pasta roller or the slicer/shredder.
Have a recommendation for me? Let me know what kitchen aid mixer attachment is a must in your opinion!
My Tech assistant
Our MacBookPro is one of our more recent additions to our household.
We were in the market for a new computer and wanted to make the change to a Mac this time around.
We took that leap a little sooner than planned.
The
I’m not mad though!
So far we are loving it but we are still getting used to the differences between the two brands.

LIGHTING
I bet many people wouldn’t think twice about adding lamps in their homes.
Lamps made my top ten list because of the lack of overhead lighting in our home.
Our main living room has NO overhead lights to speak of.
Our only source of lighting is what we bring in.
Lighting is SO important in a home or any space for that matter. Most rooms will need various types of lighting too in order to ensure the right amount of light for different activities.
I love to take a layered approach to my lighting schemes to give us more control over the amount we have in each space.
In the rooms in which we do have an overhead light source, lamps allow us to bring in the additional task and mood lighting that is very much needed.
STORAGE
Along with our lack of lighting, we are in need of more storage in our home but who isn’t really.
The side tables I select to bring into our home pull double duty for us.
They provide places for glasses, plates, candles and other things to make a safe landing.
The perfect side tables also give us extra, much-needed storage.
Drawers, shelves, cabinets. The more the better!
I’ll take anything I can get that helps corral all the things in our home.
And while we are talking about storage, I can’t forget baskets and bins.
In our home baskets are collecting blankets, magazines, dog toys, and even trash in some cases.
Our basement, just like millions of others, is home to many bins. All full of holiday decor, seasonal clothing, books, and childhood memories too important to throw away.
These everyday essentials help control and contain all the things. Without which any order I’ve managed to maintain would be lost.
EVERYDAY HOME essential items TO MAKE LIFE ENJOYABLE
- Candles
- Throw Pillows
- Blankets
- Books
Candles, throw pillows, blankets, and books are my home accessory weaknesses.
It’s hard for me to resist any of these home essentials when out shopping. Some of my favorite places to shop for them are TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and antique stores.

for the senses
Who doesn’t love a good candle?
In my home, you could probably find about 50 in various states of usage.
I love the warm, inviting glow they emit but honestly, I’m all about the lovely scents!
My favorite candle scents vary with the seasons.
In the spring and summer, I love candles that are light and fresh smelling. I gravitate towards scents like tangerine, green tea, and lemon.
Give me all the vanilla, sugar cookie, and caramel scents in the fall and winter. Anything that makes my house smell like I’ve just spent the day baking!
Woodsy and masculine scents are also my jam this time of year. Mike especially loves the ones that smell like firewood and tobacco.
TJ Maxx and HomeGoods generally have a good selection and are my go-to’s for great candles at reasonable prices. I always try to check these aisles right when the season is changing for the best selection. Tip- When you find a scent you love, stock up!
to snuggle up with
I love a good throw pillow and a soft, cozy blanket. Fall is my favorite time of year and there’s nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with both on a crisp, cool October night.
TJ Maxx and HomeGoods are usually my first stop when it comes to these items.
They usually have a pretty good selection.
They have a variety of blankets in colors that will work for just about any design scheme you dream up.
And when it comes to throw pillows, I love that I can find so many down-filled options at amazing prices.
Etsy is another great place to source pillows.
I usually go to the app when I’m on the hunt for something specific.
Pillows in fabrics usually for “the trade only” is a great way to get your hands on a designer piece at a less than designer price.

for the book worm
This last item on the list may not be one that people typically think of as a home essential.
But when talking about essentials that bring joy, books are on the top of our list.
Both Mike and I love to read and have stacks of books by our nightstands. It’s typically how we wind down and fall asleep at night.
In our home though, books serve a dual purpose and are used in our decor.
I use them to add height and elevation changes to a vignette. I also use them when I want to highlight a favorite item by stacking them up to act as a place of display.
I’m a sucker for a good home library and can’t wait for the day when we have our own wall of built-ins filled with books.
They are a great way to bring instant character, warmth, history, and charm to any space.
