Outdoor Pillows From Amazon for Your Patio

If you’ve ever scrolled through outdoor pillows and felt like everything looked the same, the same faded stripes, the same basic patterns you’d find in any big box store, this post is for you. I’ve been on the hunt for outdoor pillows that actually feel designed. Ones that look like you brought your living room outside. Pillows that could honestly work indoors just as easily as they do on a patio.

I’m shopping for myself right now, so this one is personal. We finished our backyard remodel last year and now that the foundation is set, the furniture, the umbrella, the bones of the space, it’s time to bring it to life with some color and pattern. I’ve been deep in the rabbit hole on Amazon so you don’t have to be. There are some really beautiful options hiding in there if you’re willing to dig, and I’ve done that work for you.

Our Backyard Remodel: A Look at the Before.

We’ve already found and purchased the main furniture pieces for our patio. Now I’m on the hunt for some accessories to pull the space together.

Our sofa and two swivel/glider chairs have creamy white cushions that are so, so comfy. We also purchased a cast aluminum table for six. It’s comfortable but Mike wanted cushions for these seats as well.

I found these 18″ x 18″ x 2.5″ cream colored seat cushions on Amazon. They are a perfect match to the cream on the sofa and chairs. They’re thick and provide great support without being too firm or out of scale with the chair.

Now, that the foundation is set, it’s time to add some pattern and color with some outdoor pillows.

How I Think About Mixing Outdoor Pillows

There’s no single formula, but there is a starting point: pick one pillow you love and build around it. For me that’s usually a pretty floral or a block print. Something with some personality. From there I’m looking for a classic stripe or gingham to ground it. That contrast between the structured and the organic is what gives a grouping that collected, layered look that feels intentional without being too matchy.

What I’ve tried to do with the combinations below is show you that one pillow can work with a lot of different partners. You’re not locked into buying a set. If you find a stripe you love, it’s probably going to play nicely with three or four different florals in that same color family. That makes it really easy to refresh your look mid-season or as your taste evolves. Swap one pillow and the whole vibe shifts.

My favorite color is blue and whenever I start a design, that’s usually the color I start with. Also, we recently found a patio umbrella in navy so blue was a great place to start.

Favorite Outdoor Pillows from Amazon In Green

Also, I’ve been leaning into the color green a little more lately. When we remodeled our downstairs half bath, we painted the walls Mistletoe by Benjamin Moore. Also, our guest bedroom got a recent refresh and I used Colonial Revival Green Stone by Sherwin Williams on the trim and board and batten.

The family room that leads to the patio is also painted in a medium-dark shade of green. Secret Garden by Sherwin Williams. With this in mind, I wanted to create a color palette featuring green to tie the two spaces together.

Outdoor Pillows in Mustard, Rust, and Sable

Next, I looked at pillows in earth tones like mustard, rust, and sable. I’ve been drawn to these colors a bit more recently and love the warmth they add to a space. Wanting to step out of my comfort zone, I worked on pulling together pillows with these color combos in mind.

Taking It a Step Further | Mixed Palette Combinations

The combos I’m sharing are also a little intentional about pushing past the obvious. I wanted pairings that feel effortlessly collected rather than catalog-coordinated.

The formula I kept coming back to was a large scale print paired with a smaller scale print and a solid and/or geometric to anchor it. But the real magic happens when you start pulling those elements from different color families. A cocoa brown block print with a sage green stripe and a navy solid. A blue toile with an olive lattice and a cream scalloped pillow. Colors that complement without being too safe, patterns that play off each other without competing. That’s what gives a space that lived-in, inviting quality that’s hard to put your finger on but you always know it when you see it.
