No mantle? No problem! Today I’m sharing 6 different ways to hang stockings without a fireplace mantle in your home.

Where to hang stockings without a fireplace mantle
When we moved into our home over 10 years ago, I could have sworn that we had a fireplace. Mike and I were positive we remembered seeing one when we went for the showing. Or did we?
Well, we were wrong. A fireplace wasn’t something that was on our “must-have” list but would have been a “nice to have”. Especially on cold January nights, curled up watching the Great British Baking Show, with a cup of tea and a plate of chocolate chip cookies. But like I said, not something we HAVE to have.
So, when Christmas rolled around I had to get creative about where to hang our stockings without a fireplace mantle in our home. If you’re in the same boat, keep reading for different ways to display your stockings that don’t require the traditional fireplace mantle.
No Mantle? Here’s where to hang your stockings for Christmas
01: Hang stockings from a banister
I love this one! I love the look of a gorgeous swag of fresh greenery cascading down a banister. Providing the perfect festive backdrop from which to hang your stockings. This is also a great way to add some holiday vibes to your entry and welcome your guests into your home.
If you have the space and stocking holders, you can also use the stair treads as another option to display your stockings. Instead of attaching them to the railing simply place the stocking holders on the side of the stair tread and hang your stocking. Easy peasy!
This is a great option if you’re looking for a way to not only display but have functional stockings that can hold all the goodies you need to shove in there.
02: No mantle, how about a console?
Most years, this is where Santa can find our stockings. Our low TV console in our living room is the perfect height and length for hanging all our stockings.
We have family that stays with us every year and we all wake up together on Christmas morning. There’s enough room for Mike, Moose, and me but also for my mom, sister, and any other members who may come to stay.

03: Use a decorative hook
In the bedroom my sister uses while in town, I hang her stocking from a decorative hook already attached to the wall.
Near the bed, I have a large, single, metal hook for guests to use. It’s the perfect catch-all spot for hanging a jacket, a purse, or a towel.
It’s also the perfect spot for my sister’s stocking. This is a great option for people who only have one or two stockings to hang.
04: Hang stockings from a window
I love to bring touches of the holiday season into our guest bedrooms. Especially since we have family and friends who come to stay with us.
My mom and sister are regular guests for the holidays and they each have their own stocking here in Ohio. A couple of years ago, when decorating my mom’s room for Christmas, I decided to hang her stocking from the lock on the window sash.
It’s a unique twist on the traditional way to hang stockings without a fireplace mantle and it’s became a favorite look of mine.

05: Hang stockings from a doorknob
Another great way to display stockings in your home without a fireplace mantle is to hang them from a bedroom doorknob.
When guests come to stay in our home for the holidays there are 3 simple additions I add to our guest bedrooms to make them festive and cozy. Adding holiday decor is one of them.
I love this idea because it’s a great way to create a welcoming, festive, and inviting space for friends and family that come to stay with us.
Keep it simple with a plain, traditional, red stocking or, grab an inexpensive stocking with their initial on it for extra hostess bonus points. Hang it from the doorknob to the room they’re staying in and add a few small treats as a welcome gift.

06: Still wish you had a mantle? CReate one
Still set on the idea of hanging stockings from a traditional mantle? Why not create one in your home?
A few years ago, we made some updates to one of our guest bedrooms and added some decorative moulding to one of the walls.
When designing the look I wanted, I always had the holidays in the back of my mind. I knew I wanted to incorporate a ledge into the design for displaying books and trinkets but also an area that could be a feature during the holidays.
The final design not only adds interest and character to the room but also provides an area for storage and display. Making it the perfect spot for holiday decor and hanging stockings.
We created this in our guest bedroom but it could easily be done in a living room for displaying your family’s stockings.
