Summer is winding down and my favorite season is fast approaching. FALL! Each year, I like to experiment and switch up my home decore look a bit. I use Pinterest to gather moody fall decor inspiration and get ideas for my look. Saving them to my fall and Halloween boards for reference.

Moody fall decor inspiration
When decorating my home for fall, I tend to lean into the darker, moodier colors of the season. Deep greens, rich burgundy, plum, and lots of black of course! To me, fall and Halloween go hand in hand. Since the season is so short, I usually end up mixing the two together to create one look that lasts through the end of October.
Today, I’m sharing the pins that have caught my eye and are inspiring my fall decor look this year.
Favorite Moody fall Inspiration Pins
- When decorating our home for fall, our porch is one of the areas I focus on. Usually, I do a mix of mums and pumpkins. Varying my color pallet each year. I love the simple, tonal look of this outdoor display though. It incorporates my favorite color of pumpkins along with a mix of plants for texture and interest. The alyssum is similar to a plant I have on our front porch right now that I could easily add to and update for fall which I love. Getting more bang for my buck rather than completely starting over for fall.
- I love to decorate with gourds. All different shapes and sizes and in deep, dark green tones. The lumpier and weirder they look the better! I love this moody mantle look warmed up with brass and blush pink florals. The brass and blush pink keep the look from feeling too cold and all the texture from the gourds adds interest and character.
- I love to incorporate florals into my home during the warmer months of the season. During fall my pallet leans toward the darker, richer colors of the season. I love this floral arrangement because it has a mix of deep burgundy wine-colored flowers with pops of cream, browns, and burnt apricot to warm it up and make it feel like fall. I also love the styling of this image. The dark, slate-like runner with the figs and pears adds to the fall moody vibe.
- There’s so much to love about this next fall decor inspiration pin. The space is already dark and moody creating a cozy setting and base to layer in the warmth of fall. I love the large, simple floral arrangement. It’s easy enough that anyone can implement it in their own home and looks like something you could forage in your yard. An inexpensive way to get a high-end look. I love the warmth from the gold and old books and the slight nod to the fall season with the pumpkin. Perfect without being too much.
Favorite moody halloween decor pins
- I like to mix my fall decor with my Halloween decor to extend the life of my display. I get more out of my look by doing this and I’m able to enjoy the design for a longer period of time. Because I tend to embrace the darker, moodier colors of fall, mixing in a bit of Halloween is easy for me. I love decorating with old books and consider them an essential home decor item. A simple stack topped with a skull for a creepy chic, moody vibe is totally my jam!
- I will always and forever be inspired by The Makerista and her Halloween displays. She shares my love of Halloween and every year creates an INCREDIBLE display around some sort of theme. She is the queen of creepy chic and I look forward to seeing what she creates each year.
- Last year, I created a creepy chic Halloween look that incorporated all of my favorite fall and Halloween decor items. Lumpy, dark green gourds, skeleton hands, skulls, and rich, moody florals. I’ll take elements of this design and give it a twist. Remixing it for a new look this year.
- Curiosities mixed into a moody fall decor display is so interesting to me. I haven’t found the right mix of items yet but it’s one I keep working on. They’re great conversational items and add a bit of that creepy element I think we’re all looking for with our Halloween decor. Depending on the items you use, it can be a great way to bring texture into your display as well. Adding layers and interest to your design.
