A Simple But Elegant Easter Table Setting

Today on the blog I’m sharing a simple but elegant Easter table setting you can implement in your own home this year.

I don’t love elaborate tablescapes. I generally take a less is more approach when setting the table for the holidays. A few simple touches like flowers and candles usually do it for me. You can see an example of this in the simple but modern Easter tablescape I created back in 2021.

I also don’t like when a table feels overcrowded with stuff and there’s no room to move or place the food. So, when planning out this year’s table, I kept all this in mind and went simple with the design.

The Starting Point

I don’t typically keep a tablecloth on our table for daily use but for special occasions, this is where I usually start. It’s a simple way to instantly elevate your table and it also becomes the inspiration for the rest of my design. Providing a color palette from which to easily pull from when selecting the other pieces.

I also love the immediate hit of color or pattern a tablecloth adds to a room. For very little effort you can change up the whole vibe of the space.

I started by combing through my list of favorites I have saved. Originally I thought I wanted a colorful floral pattern but nothing on my wish list felt right. I then came across a simple sage green gingham tablecloth with white tassels and it felt like the perfect base for our Easter table. The butter yellow gingham and robin’s egg blue are also very pretty and options I considered.

I purchased the 55″x120″ tablecloth. It’s a little too long for our table without the leaves so I pulled the extra fabric to the center of the table and folded it to create a pleat around 12″ wide.

With the tablecloth selected, I created a quick little mood board to help me decide on the rest of the table settings.

Laying the Foundation

Next, I moved on to the place settings. To keep it simple, I knew I wanted to use our everyday white dinner plates from Crate and Barrel and build from there. They’re a great basic making it easy to layer in other colors or patterns of my choice.

While shopping at HomeGoods for treats and toys for the dogs, I came across the sweetest Easter bunny plates. The cream background with the green bunnies fits right in with my everyday aesthetic and with the color scheme I was building for my simple but elegant Easter table. Also, they are salad plate size making them the perfect fit to layer on top of our dinner plates.

To round out our Easter table setting and keep it easy, I used our everyday stainless steel silverware from Target, our highball glasses from Pottery Barn (no longer available), and the sweetest antique juice glasses I recently received from my aunt.

With the tablecloth and place settings figured out, I moved on to sourcing some simple but fun accessories to really bring the table to life.

Sourcing The Decor

Bringing in color with fresh flowers

As a lover of fresh flowers, I knew I wanted a pretty spring bouquet for the center of the table. I try to add a bit of blue and white to my designs when I can and decided to use my favorite vase to hold the arrangement. I love the way the blue and white compliments the sage green tablecloth.

My favorite local florist created a beautiful mix with shades of purple, pink, and green with an unexpected pop of orange from the Kumquat branches for interest. All the colors work beautifully together creating a very spring-like Easter tablescape.

Elevating the design with glass elements

I’ve been seeing these thin delicate glass taper candle holders in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I thought it would be fun to pull from my color palette and select a few to add to our table.

From Sur La Table, I purchased the 6.3″ pink glass taper holder, the 7″ taupe glass candle holder, and the 6″ parakeet green glass candle holder. I also found 2 additional 10″ glass taper candle holders from HomeGoods on clearance when I purchased the bunny plates.

Layering in more pattern and texture

The final items I sourced for our simple but elegant Easter tablescape were napkins and a wicker tray.

Cloth napkins are another easy way to elevate a simple design and make your guests feel special. I wanted to introduce another pattern into the design and was on the hunt for something floral and in the blue family to tie in with the vase.

I found a set of 4 floral blossom napkins in blue that I fell in love with from Sur La Table. When they arrived though, The colors weren’t right. The background was more grey than creamy white and the blue was darker than how it appeared online. I returned them and started my search again.

I ordered a few more sets from Amazon to test. This floral red set was really pretty in person. As was this mustard and lavender floral print that’s no longer available. I also liked this powder blue floral trellis print. Ultimately though, I switched gears and went with a really pretty paper napkin set with orange and green flowers to tie in with the pop of orange in the floral arrangement. Even though they are paper, they still feel special with the scalloped detail along the bottom edge.

I wanted to add in a bit of texture to break things up and create interest. While at HomeGoods I came across this white wicker scalloped tray and I thought it was the perfect last touch our Easter table needed.

It holds our floral arrangement making it easy to move around if we need more space on the table. It’s also a super versatile piece that I’ll be using all summer long.

Creating a simple but elegant Easter Tablescape
