Today, I’m sharing 3 simple additions you can add to create a festive and cozy holiday guest bedroom.
As we near the holiday season, one of my favorite things to do is to prepare our guest bedrooms for our guests. I typically start when fall rolls around to try and get a headstart. I have a handful of things I do to get our home ready for fall and prepping the guest bedrooms is one of them. This includes cleaning and swapping out the bedding and making note of things that need to be added or replaced.
On top of my 10 must-have guest bedroom essential items, I like to add these 3 simple additions at the holidays to make the rooms festive and cozy.

3 simple additions for festive and cozy holiday guest bedrooms
With COVID, a guest bedroom refresh, and another bedroom swapping its identity for a home office, I’m not sure our guest bedrooms will get much use this holiday season. I’m excited for next year though when hopefully we can welcome our out of town guests back into our home. Making these 3 simples touches all the more important and special when we do!
01: Holiday Decor
The first simple addition to your guest bedroom to create a festive and cozy room is to add holiday decor, of course!
My mom and sister usually join us for Christmas and stay for around 2 weeks. Because they are here for an extended period of time, I like to make their rooms extra cozy and festive for the holidays.
Fresh and faux greenery and twinkle lights help to put my guests in the holiday spirit! I do this by hanging a faux wreath from a ribbon with lights in the windows. I also like to add touches of fresh greenery to bring in that fresh woodsy seasonal scent.
Small faux or live tabletop trees with family ornaments are another way I make our loved ones feel right at home. Keeping memories and traditions alive.
Other holiday touches include seasonal candles and small decor items to bring in the colors of the season.
These simple additions go a long way in making your guests feel welcome and putting them into the holiday spirit.
02: Welcome gift
Who doesn’t love to get a gift?!? What better way to welcome guests into your home for the holidays than with my second simple addition, a small gift!
I love to add a little box of my favorite chocolates on the nightstand to welcome guests to our home. It helps set the tone and sends the message that we are excited they are here and we’ve been thinking about them.
Bonus points if you know what they love and can add that extra special and thoughtful touch!
Other small welcome gift ideas include cookies or other yummy snacks or treats. A book or magazines are another great welcome gift idea!
03: Robe and Slippers
It’s cold here in northeast Ohio during the winter. When prepping our guest bedrooms for the holidays I swap out our lighter summer bedding for our winter sets. Adding extra cozy layers to ensure our guests stay warm.
During the holidays I like to have a robe and slippers available to our guests. This is the last simple addition you can add to make sure your guest bedrooms are cozy and inviting during the holidays. It will also make them feel like they’ve just checked into the chicest, boutique hotel on the block!
We have hardwood floors in our home and I’m always in my slippers. Especially in the wintertime. One year, I added robes and slippers to our guest bedrooms for my mom and sister. They were in town for the holidays and these simple additions were a huge hit!
I think they appreciated the extra layers of warmth and homey comforts. Items they didn’t think to pack or realize they were missing out on until I provided them.
